What are the symptoms of insomnia?

Insomnia can manifest itself through regular problems falling asleep, a greater number of awakenings during the night and reduced sleep, which prevents the body from fully recovering. Many patients experience all these symptoms at the same time, which translates into extreme fatigue during the day. As for the time in which we are accompanied by difficulties with sleep, when they concern several nights, then we evaluate it as the physiological response of the body to stress. If the problems persist for up to several weeks, then we are talking about short-term insomnia. A month of sleep problems can already be considered as a disease - insomnia.

Symptoms of chronic insomnia last decidedly more than a month.
In diagnosed sleep problems, there are at least a few sleepless nights during the week that affect our functioning the next day Single, sleepless nights, can happen even to healthy people — this is not yet a cause for concern. However, it is worth paying attention to your bedtime routine and sleep regularity as a preventive measure.

The stress of falling asleep and worries about insomnia only aggravate the matter, paradoxically affect the aggravation of its symptoms. The most important thing in this case is to remain calm.

People who worry about sleep problems often fall into a vicious circle of insomnia.

Many patients begin to feel anxious during the day about what their next night will look like.

Insomnia has a negative effect on our functioning during the day. After a sleepless night, we are physically and mentally tired. Patients often experience decreased concentration of attention, memory problems, drowsiness, decreased energy, and with it motivation, irritability, sadness, mood disorders, behavioral disorders, e.g. impulsivity or even aggression. They often worry about their sleep, it happens that patients withdraw from their duties, function worse in the professional, social or family sphere.

Our body, responding to insomnia, releases stress hormones and triggers a “fight or flight” response. When stress in our lives becomes more and more common, the needs of the body, such as sleep, recede into the background. Every night is another stressful day. The more we worry about it during the day, the harder it is to fall asleep later in the evening. Stress can
at some point give way, but the mechanism of the vicious circle remains. The organism remains in a state of constant readiness, it is difficult to calm thoughts, the head does not want to turn off.

Such a mode of stimulation of the body, persists in a sick person even after falling asleep. Patients sleep alert, shallowly, they can be awakened by an insignificant rustle. This condition is called overexcitation. Such symptoms can be experienced by the patient around the clock.

Thus, insomnia is a dangerous disorder that completely takes away the comfort of life. If you experience the symptoms described, see a doctor as soon as possible and take a step towards returning to a healthy recovery.
